VISUAL MANIFESTOS: BEYOND THE PAGE, INTO SPACE

This inquiry examined typography’s ability to move beyond traditional boundaries by effectively integrating visual communication with spatial storytelling. Grounded in an innovative educational initiative with second-year Visual Communication students, the presentation explored how typography evolves from static text into dynamic, spatially expressive forms. The central focus addressed two primary questions: How can typography serve as a powerful tool for making social, cultural, and personal statements? And how does expanding typography into physical spaces redefine audience interaction and engagement? Students tackled these inquiries through experimental projects—including installations, posters, and editorial compositions—that specifically responded to real-world issues, transforming typographic design into impactful visual manifestos.

Through critical analysis of these student-led projects, the presentation emphasized typography as an immersive, interactive medium, enhancing creative practice at the interdisciplinary intersection of art and spatial design. The discussion highlighted the importance of experiential and spatial approaches, encouraging the audience to reconsider typography’s potential within spatial contexts and its impact as a form of visual expression.
